The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony comprises the territory of the former country Saxony with the borders of 1922. With almost 702.000 church members in 712 parishes and joint parishes, it is numerically the third largest church in the East German area. Young and old people, men and women take part in the church life. At highlights of life, in positive experiences as well as in difficult situations of life the church is there for the people. It brings the Christian faith close to them in every-day life and endeavours to be a helpful and supportive companion.

Like in former times, the Saxon regional church faces up to the current challenges and the people’s questions of life. At the same time, it preserves a rich tradition that has revealed itself in the condensed experience of life and faith. It tries to use religious attitudes and spirituality orientations as richness.

The Peace Decade with the campaign “Swords into Ploughshares” in 1980/81, the “Sozialer Friedensdienst” (social work in the interest of peace) as well as the Peace Forum in 1982 were Dresden impulses for the Christian peace movement. more…
