The Lutheran Church in Saxony maintains numerous partnerships with churches and parishes abroad. The church districts and a network of partner parishes are responsible for the shaping of the relationships. The organisation is carried out by the ecumenical department of the Saxon church office.
There are official relationships with churches and parishes in Russia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Great Britain and the USA.
Additionally there is a special commitment towards Lutheran partner churches which resulted from the work of the Lutheran Mission Work Leipzig (LMW): The Ev.-Luth. Tamilkirche in Indien, the lutheran churches in Papua-Neuguinea and Tansania.
The country departments of the LMW are responsible for the relationships with these churches.
The partnership work is a vivid part in the life of parishes. Through this work the worldwide community of Christians is perceptible. The ecumenism gets a concrete face. The meeting and the mutual exchange of spiritual experience is the main focus. The partnership work follows the motto: strengthening faith – establish parishes.
